How to read these sizes
Skip bins are measured by volume in cubic metres, which is hard to picture. The wheelie-bin figure on each card is the practical translation: one cubic metre holds roughly four standard 240L wheelie bins, so a 3m³ bin is about twelve of them and a 10m³ bin about forty.
Volume is only half the question. Dense material — tiles, brick, concrete, wet soil-heavy garden waste — reaches a bin's practical limit long before it looks full, while light bulky waste such as furniture and packaging fills the space and weighs very little. If your load is heavy, work from weight rather than what looks like enough room.
Two habits save the most money. Break down anything that can be flat-packed, because wardrobes and pallets waste more space than any other item. And where you are between two sizes, take the larger one — a second hire costs far more than the step up.
